The main collections that are part of the Museum’s collection are archeology, epigraphy, Sacred Art, Paintings, Silver, Numismatic, Furniture and Ethnography.
The collection of the Museum has been gradually enriched through donations, bequests and acquisitions.

The Museum was created by decree law on November 13, 1915 under the name of Regional Museum of Art Works, Archaeological and Numismatic parts of Bragança. In 1935, the date of retirement of Baçal Abbot, has been renamed to Museum Baçal Abbot, named after the scholar, researcher and also Director of the Museum between 1925 and 1935.
Has been of great importance to the Museum the action of Raul Teixeira, Director of Baçal Abbot Museum between 1935 and 1955. Great booster culture of the region and defender of their heritage, played a decisive role in the projection of the Museum and in raising significant part of its collection, aimed at the excellent relations that had with the cultural and artistic circles of the time.
